He played in his first collegiate game for the Jayhawks in 1956. Chamberlain led his team to the NCAA tournament championship game in 1957. Despite the fact that his team did not win the championship, he was named the game’s Most Outstanding Player.

Career

Chamberlain completed his college studies in 1958 and intended to enter the NBA immediately, but NBA restrictions prevented him from doing so. As a result, he was forced to wait until 1959. Prior to turning professional, he was a member of the Harlem Globetrotters and the Philadelphia Warriors. He first appeared on the professional circuit in October of 1959. He was watching a game between the Philadelphia Warriors and the New York Knicks. He was able to score 43 points in this specific game.

During his rookie season, Chamberlain was voted the NBA’s Most Valuable Player and Rookie of the Year. During his first year in the league, he also won a number of additional prizes.

Despite the fact that he was playing for his new team at the time, he was essential in their championship triumphs against both his prior team and the Boston Celtics. Following his stunning triumph against the Celtics, Chamberlain decided to switch teams and sign with the Los Angeles Lakers. In Later Life

Wilt Chamberlain announced his retirement as a professional basketball player in 1973. As a coach, he was only on the field for small periods of time. In 1978, he was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame, which was the pinnacle of his career. Personal Life

Death

On October 12, 1999, Wilt Chamberlain finally gave in to the effects of his illness and died on the next day. His passing came as a shock to everyone.
